Hutchins debating champions

Year 8 Debating Team (Tasmanian Debating Union Champions 2014). (large)

On Wednesday 2 July 2014, the Year 8 Debating Team, of Alex Hall, Chisomo Banzi, Isaac Traill defeated New Town High School to become the Tasmanian Debating Union Champions for 2014. The team also comprised of Harvey Chilcott, Liam Mead and Koh Kawaguchi all of whom were instrumental in achieving a place in the Grand Final.

Students Explore NASA's Digital Universe Atlas

AARNet's immersive 3D theatre, the IGLEw in the Nettlefold Library.

This week the School has Australia's Academic and Research Network’s (AARNet’s) immersive 3D theatre and global learning environment called the IGLEw. It provides an interactive, immersive, visual-spatial experience in an inflatable 3D theatre.

Hutchins students top Tasmania

Earlier this year students from The Hutchins School tested their geographical skills and knowledge against 70,000 students in 760 schools from all over Australia in the 2014 Australian Geography Competition. The results of this competition have recently been announced.

On 20 June The Hutchins School Art department was delighted to host a two-day visit from twenty primary school Art teachers from Victoria. The teachers enjoyed a marvellous show of work from our Junior School students with some of our students acting as hosts.

Hutchins volunteers strengthen ties

In an effort to strengthen the ties between the Hutchins School Old Boys Football Club (HSOBFC) and The Hutchins School, over 30 boys from Years 5, 6 and 7 have been giving up their time on Saturdays to assist the HSOBFC in a number of areas.

Year 8 Camp and Enrichment Week

In weeks 2 and 3, Year 8 students participated in a variety of Wellbeing Challenges as part of Camp and Enrichment Week. The bushwalking and camp challenge introduces and prepares the students for Power of 9 challenges. The students carried all they needed for the week and walked from camp to camp at Freycinet.

Magenta & Black Art Show

The fifth Magenta & Black Art Show concluded last weekend and was a great success. In the six days it was open over 1,000 people came to the Long Gallery to view the exhibition which is an impressive attendance figure for any art exhibition of a week’s duration.
