Hutchins is proud to announce Li Cunxin as our guest speaker for this year's Webber Lecture. If you have read the book or seen the movie Mao's Last Dancer you will know that he is a remarkable man with an amazing story to tell. From humble beginnings in rural China to the height of the global dance world, Li's story is one of determination, passion, integrity and success.
The 2011 school rowing season ended on Sunday with the finals of the Schools Rowing Championships. Hutchins retained both the Junior and Overall Boys' Composite Trophies by significant margins.
Our school crews performed outstandingly at this year's prestigious Head of The River Event at Lake Barrington, with our first VIII claiming the prized title.
On Friday 8 April, Mr Sam Nogajski attended the Ricky Ponting Medal where he was awarded the State Umpire of the Year award from Cricket Tasmania. Mr Nogajski was also presented with Tasmania's 'Grade Umpire of the Year' trophy for 2010-11, his third win in a row, at the Association's Annual Dinner held at Bellerive on Wednesday 6 April.
The Hutchins Head of IT Dr Jill Abell has recently returned from the European Council of International Schools conference in Germany. Dr Abell delivered a paper at the, IT's about Learning conference held at the Frankfurt International School along with Dr Julie Rimes from Collegiate.
This week, the Power of 9 team have been based in South West Tasmania.
The Open Squad had the weekend off after their Nationals effort, but all other age groups competed in the Launceston Henley Regatta last weekend (19-20 March) This was a great opportunity, particularly for younger rowers, to get some more racing experience before the last three school regattas of the season.
Hutchins rowers have taken out three gold medals, a silver and a bronze at the National Rowing Championships in Adelaide over the weekend, with the school retaining its position as the most successful rowing school in the nation. The next best medal tally was Scotch College Victoria with one gold and three silvers.
It was a proud gathering of old and new members of the Hutchins community came together to mark the official opening of the Hutchins Foundation Centre on Tuesday 8 March 2011.
It was an extraordinary weekend for Hutchins crews at this year’s state championships at Lake Barrington, with Hutchins crews sweeping up victories in the men’s eights, pair and single scull races.
