Magenta & Black Art Show

Years 11/12 winner - bicycle tyres and inner tube sculptures by Kaelan Durbin.

The fifth Magenta & Black Art Show concluded last weekend and was a great success. In the six days it was open over 1,000 people came to the Long Gallery to view the exhibition which is an impressive attendance figure for any art exhibition of a week’s duration. It was wonderful to see very young boys leading their parents or grandparents deep into the gallery to view their contribution to a class exercise.

The standard of art was such that many visitors without Hutchins connections felt compelled to ask if the art on display was really produced by students at one school. We can attribute the standard of work to our brilliant Art teachers Rachelle Robinson (Co-ordinator), Kate Langridge and Rebecca Terry assisted by Judy Smith from the Early Learning Centre and Luke Wagner (Assisting the Co-ordinator).

Art Book Gift Vouchers each valued at $150 were presented by the Chair of the Hutchins Art Committee Ms Falconer to the winners of three exhibition sections. The Junior School section (Kindergarten to 6) was won by ‘Texture Sculptures’ (a Year 4 group from 2013) the Years 7 to 10 winner was ‘Joseph Cornell Inspired Assemblages’ (a Year 8 group from 2014) and the Years 11/12 winner was Kaelan Durbin for his bicycle tyres and inner tube sculptures from 2013. We would like to thank Hillross Professional Wealth Managers who were the generous sponsors of the gift vouchers.

The Tasmanian Coffee Roasters People’s Choice Award winner was Kaelan Durbin.

We would like to thank all of our sponsors for their support and the Hutchins Art Committee for the organisation of such a successful event.
