Walk Out Of The Shadows and Freezin’ for a Reason 2022

Senior students gathered at Hutchins to begin Walk Out Of The Shadows and Freezin’ for a Reason 2022.

On Friday 25 August,  over 100 Senior School students, including students from St Michael's Collegiate School and Fahan School, participated in the Walk Out Of The Shadows and Freezin’ for a Reason events.

At sunrise on Friday morning, students gathered at Hutchins to begin Walk Out Of The Shadows, walking down to the Sandy Bay Sailing Club for Lifeline to raise awareness for suicide prevention.

Students then participated in Freezin’ for a Reason, spending a few minutes in the freezing cold water to raise awareness for Speak Up Stay ChatTY and the importance of the mental health and wellbeing of our community. The temperature from the Bureau of Meteorology at 7.00am was 5 degrees (feels like 2.4 degrees)!

This event was put together by Thorold House and the Hutchins Wellbeing Committee. The money raised will be split between Speak Up Stay ChatTY, Lifeline and Reclink Australia. The Year 12 students have chosen Reclink Australia for their charity in 2022.

Afterward students were rewarded with fresh egg and bacon rolls thanks to the Stephens House breakfast team, with food and warm drinks kindly supplied by the Lions Club of Hobart Town Inc., who we thank for their kind support!

Thank you to the students who organised this event and to the staff for their assistance, your generosity is greatly appreciated!
