Prefects’ Mother’s Day Breakfast

School Captain, Oliver Burrows-Cheng, Bernadette Black and School Vice-Captain Alex Hogan-Jones.

On Wednesday 16 May 2019, the Year 12 Prefects hosted their annual Mother’s Day Breakfast in Burbury House.

Hutchins boys of all ages gathered with their mums, grandmothers and carers for a delicious breakfast and heard from our Guest Speaker, Bernadette Black, founder of Brave Foundation.

Bernadette is a prolific example of a loving mother, she overcame adversity as a young woman to finish her education, become a qualified nurse, political advocate and holds many governance positions. She has won many awards including 2008 Finalist Australian of the Year, 2009 Barnardos Australian Mother of the Year, 2016 Telstra Tasmanian Business Woman of the Year, and 2019 Tasmanian Australian of the Year. Bernadette also founded Brave Foundation, a not-for-profit charity that equips expecting and parenting teens with resources, referral and education opportunities to facilitate happy, healthy and skilled families over time.

The Year 12 Prefects are pleased to donate the ticket proceeds from the Mother’s Day Breakfast to Brave Foundation. Over $600 in raffle proceeds will also be donated to the Year 12 elected charity, The Smith Family.

Thank you to all who attended this wonderful event, Bernadette Black for speaking, the Year 12 Prefects and the Community Relations Team for another successful event.
