Mother’s Day Breakfast

Fergus Charles (School Captain), Toni Moate and Harvey Chilcott (School Vice-Captain)

Thank you to all the mothers, carers and special friends who came along to the annual Mother’s day breakfast held on 25 May 2018. Being in Year 12 myself, I can see the particular importance of this morning for both mothers and the boys as not only is it a chance for the boys to show appreciation for the tireless work our mothers do for us, but also a final chance for the mothers of the Year 12 boys to celebrate and reflect how they have raised a unique individual with a variety of strengths.

This year we were very lucky to have Toni Moate, The CSRIO’s Director of National Marine Infrastructure and last years’ Telstra Business Woman of the Year, as our guest speaker. Toni’s talk was both captivating and inspirational, as she touched on the power of life-long learning and her very interesting journey. However what stood out as particularly powerful was her message of the importance of equality in both community and workforce as well as ending domestic violence. These messages reinforced this years’ theme of courage; and challenged us all to have the courage to stand up for what is right when are called to.

We would thank Toni for her time and particularly her generosity of donating the money given for her presentation to The Hobart Woman’s Shelter. We would also like to thank the businesses who kindly donated prizes from which the money raised went to Speak Up Stay ChatTY, our chosen charity or 2018.
