Junior School raises over $4000 to alleviate poverty

"Lap it Up" charity event

The War Memorial Oval has been the site of many a friendly contest but the oval was recently taken by students with a very different mission; to alleviate poverty.

Junior School students and teachers have taken part in the annual "Lap it Up" charity event. Participants were sponsored by family and friends to complete laps of the oval to raise funds for the Cambodian's Children's Trust, the Junior School's sponsor child, Wveng and the Kiva* organisation. Some of the money raised will also go to Ronald McDonald House, Hobart and a school for Indigenous students in the Northern Territory.

So far, well over four thousand dollars has been raised.

The event not only encourages students to participate actively in fundraising, but also links in with the Junior School's promotion of regular physical activity.

Congratulations to all the staff and students involved.

*Kiva is a non-profit organisation with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world.
