Hutchins welcomes new Deputy Headmaster

Headmaster Mr Warwick Dean and newly-Commissioned Deputy Headmaster Mr Alan Jones.

Mr Alan Jones has been formally commissioned as the 10th Deputy Headmaster of The Hutchins School during a special Headmaster's Assembly.

Mr Jones has previously held the roles of Vice Principal and Head of Senior School at Mentone Girls' Grammar in Melbourne, Victoria; Deputy Head of Campus at Haileybury Boys' College and Head of Science, Head of Student Leadership and Director of Sport at Huntingtower School.

Mr Jones' teaching talents span a broad range of subjects; from Chemistry, General Science and Mathematics through to Sport. He is also interested in community service projects, marathon running, triathlons, cricket and hockey.

In his Commissioning Speech, Mr Jones said he hoped to work in partnership and with the support of Staff, Parents, Teaching and Support Staff to continue to provide an environment where boys can become their best:

"To the past Deputy Headmasters: Mr David Brammall, Mr John Kerr & Mr Barrie Irons,  your presence at my Commissioning is very much appreciated and your support highly valued, thank-you. I will certainly be drawing on your knowledge and expertise as I take on this important role.

"To the Parents: I look forward to working with you in partnership to educate your sons. Student wellbeing and the ability for boys to establish an emotional connection with their School is a personal passion of mine.

"To the Staff, that is both teaching and non-teaching staff, you are the School's most important resource. I look forward to working with you, to help create an environment where you can perform to the best of your ability.

"To the students: I look forward to getting to know you and helping you reach your potential. Along with the staff of the School, I will continue to set high expectation of you, across all areas of the School, because you deserve nothing less."

We welcome Mr Jones into our community, and extend that welcome to Alan's wife Carol, daughter Shannon and son Ryan as they settle into life in Hobart, and as members of our Hutchins family.
