ASX Schools Sharemarket game – Hutchins State Champion
Hutchins is once again the State Champion of the ASX Schools Sharemarket game. This game is run twice a year where students receive a virtual $50,000 they can invest over a 10 week period, in 220 companies listed on the ASX. After being the State winner in the past two years, Hutchins has now won both games in 2018. Game 2, which was just completed, was won by Economics student Isaac Traill (Year 12) with Business Foundation Studies student James Rolls (Year 10) finishing 3rd in the State.
Isaac said ‘I am currently studying Economics and our class played the Sharemarket game as part of this subject. There seems to be a lot of uncertainty and instability in the world economy at the moment, so I wanted to stay away from volatile shares that are subject to global shocks which may make investors nervous. For this reason, I bought into established resource companies that had strong market capitalization and that had been performing well in the short to medium term. This strategy worked and my shares maintained a steady growth rate throughout the 10 weeks, avoiding the large fluctuations in prices suffered by other sectors.’
