Relief Teacher and Teacher Aide Register 2023
The opportunity
The Hutchins School, established in 1846, is an Anglican Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 day and boarding school in Hobart, Tasmania. We are an Anglican school whose supportive learning community works together to nurture character of boys.
During the year, The Hutchins School will require Relief Teachers and Teacher Aides on a casual basis. This register will allow you to be contacted for these opportunities in advance when they arise.
The Hutchins School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children therefore successful applicants must be willing to undergo and complete child protection screening and onboarding including checks with past employers before commencement and must hold a current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP).
Relief Teachers
To be successful in this role you will:
- Be a qualified teacher, registered to teach or be eligible to teach, within the State of Tasmania.
- Have proven ability to deliver an engaging and highly effective teaching and learning program within an educational setting.
- Have previously developed and implemented appropriate teaching strategies to facilitate student learning.
- Take responsibility for the effective pastoral care of students.
- Have worked both independently and co-operatively with other staff members.
- Be familiar with relevant curriculum documentation, e.g. ACARA, Office of the Tasmanian Assessment Standards and Certification (TASC) and the Schools Registration Board of Tasmania (SRB).
- Have proven ability to relate to boys of all ages and understand the value of single-gender education.
Teacher Aide
To be successful in this role you will:
- Solve problems in a practical and timely manner.
- Make decisions and work autonomously within the scope of the role.
- Complete accurate work to a deadline.
- Work well in a small team and in an organised and efficient manner.
- Have high-level communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to work with a variety of people to achieve positive outcomes.
- Have completed (or significant progress towards completion) of Certification III in Education Support – Teacher Assistant or and/or equivalent experience.
- A current first aid qualification such as Apply First Aid (previously known as Senior First Aid or Workplace Level 2) or ability to obtain such a qualification.
- Ability to demonstrate basic computer skills and undertake word processing tasks in Microsoft Office software.

It is a strict requirement of our school that all staff obtain and maintain a Tasmania Department of Justice Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) evidence of which must be provided prior to commencement.
