Severe weather response – snow and black ice for Wednesday 5 August 2015

Monday’s snow at Hutchins

The confirmed forecast at 12 noon today for tomorrow, Wednesday 5 August, is for severe weather conditions in Hobart and outer areas including the south and south east.

The forecast for tomorrow is cloudy with 90% chance of rain, hail and snow down to 100m above sea level with winds westerly 25–35 knots.

Yesterday the Headmaster closed the School because weather conditions deteriorated further for travel to and from school and especially because of the presence of black ice on school grounds footpaths and stairs.

Unless the weather forecast further deteriorates, the School will be open tomorrow and will conduct a modified program if student and staff attendance is low. After school co-curricular activities will not be conducted tomorrow.

In the event of a student not being able to get home due to severe conditions the School offers the possibility of an overnight stay in Burbury House, the School’s boarding facility.

If, in your judgement, it is not safe to travel to or from school and the weather conditions are a concern to you, it is best boys remain at home.

The School will communicate tomorrow morning via:
