Music news: local and national eisteddfod success!

The Hutchins String Quartet in Sydney.

The Hutchins String Quartet travelled to Sydney in July to compete in the Sydney Eisteddfod. They achieved 3rd place in the School Chamber Music section with a $100 prize. The quartet members are: Lachlan Smith (12), Melfred Lijauco (Year 12), Mitchell Tan (Year 12), Hayden Reiss (Year 10).

Hutchins musicians have also been busy at the Hobart Eisteddfod recently. Full details are available on the Hobart Eisteddfod website ,with some of the results from both individual Hutchins students and ensembles listed below.

Gavin and Jeremy Yang were particularly successful; both were invited to perform at the Eisteddfod Highlights Concert. The Hutchins Haircutters won the Tasmanian Chorale Trophy for the second year running, and the Senior Choir won the Rowallan Trophy (last won by Hutchins in 1998).
