Middle and Senior School Speech Night 2022

Year 12 Procession

The Middle and Senior School Speech Night, held on Wednesday 7 December at Wrest Point Convention Centre, was a spectacular celebration of student achievements in 2022.

Guests were entertained by the Hutchins Orchestra, Vocal Ensemble and Senior Dance Troupe, as well as a spectacular School of Rock medley. This was a great event for the Year 12 Leavers, their families and staff to celebrate the end of school life, with our Leavers of 2022 officially declared Old Boys.

At this event the Ben Chuck ‘Good Man’ Award and the E M Lilley Memorial Prize for Dux of the School were presented to deserving Year 12 students.

The Ben Chuck ‘Good Man’ Award is a Year 12 award voted on by the Class of 2022. It is named in honour of Ben Chuck, an Old Boy of Hutchins who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash while serving in Afghanistan. Like Ben, a good person possesses the qualities of integrity, compassion, humility, courage and kindness. This year there were two overwhelmingly deserving recipients, congratulations to Jeremie Messmer and Jefferson Roy-Chowdhury (both Year 12) on receiving this award in 2022.

The E M Lilley Memorial Prize for Dux of the School was presented to Hugh Clarke (Year 12). The word dux is Latin for ‘leader’ and is the title given to the highest-ranking student in academic achievement.

Congratulations to Hugh Clarke, Jeremie Messmer and Jefferson Roy-Chowdhury on your achievements in 2022.
