Escape to Everywhere with Book Week

Kindergarten D in their Book Week costumes.

We had many amazing book characters arrive at school for the Early Learning Centre and Junior School Book Week Assemblies. The boys looked fantastic dressed as their favourite book characters.

Our ELC boys received a special visit from Headmaster ‘Rob the Builder’ McEwan who read The Real Story Of The Three Little Pigs written by Jon Scieszka and illustrated by Lane Smith.

For the Junior School Book Week Assembly 6F presented a wonderful short play on the many ways books can help you to Escape to Everywhere, which was the theme of this year’s celebrations. They also showed some fantastic artworks they had done, with self-portraits showing their favourite kinds of story to escape into.

Next we had some very creative pictures by Year 5, done in response to two of this year’s nominated books, Mechanica by Lance Balchin and Spellbound by Marie Coote. To finish off the assembly we had the great costume parade, with students from each of Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 strutting their stuff onstage, proudly displaying the books from which their characters came. The teachers weren’t shy about participating either, with Mrs Manthey’s White Rabbit a particularly stylish example!

Congratulation to everyone on a terrific celebration of our joy in reading and well done to all of our parents, carers and students who prepared the costumes, the boys looked fabulous!
