School Uniforms
All students must wear the correct school uniform. Clothing, bags, books, equipment and personal property must be clearly marked with the owner’s name. Name tags may be ordered through the School Shop. The School Shop is located on the senior campus. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 10:00am to 4:00pm (closed for lunch between 12:00 and 12:30pm).
Jewellery
Hutchins students may not wear ear studs or any other form of jewellery while in school uniform or participating in any school-based activity.

NB: The blazer is an essential part of the uniform particularly for Chapel, assembly and to and from school. It is only optional in the hot summer months when boys may just wear shorts.
Year 7 - Year 12
Some flexibility in the selection of summer or winter uniform is permissible for boys in Years 7 - 12. Long grey trousers with school blazer and white shirts (and school pullovers if required) are the usual winter uniform. Tailored grey shorts, with or without school blazer, long socks and long or short-sleeved white shirts are the usual summer uniform. Boys from Years 7 - 12 may choose to wear either uniform at any time except on specially designated occasions, but it must be one or the other and not a mixture of the two. There are specially designated occasions throughout the year for which formal winter uniform (long grey trousers, white shirt, tie and blazer) must be worn.

Hats
Hats are to be worn when outdoors in Terms 1 and 3 and on other occasions when instructed.
Kindergarten - Year 6
Boys from Prep - Year 6 must own a plain white legionnaire-style peaked hat, a white slouch cricket hat or the new Junior School sunhat, which may be worn with any uniform, including daily formal wear. Boys in Kindergarten must own a plain gold legionnaire-style hat. Coloured House caps are only for boys in Years 7 to 12.
Year 7 - Year 12
Boys from Year 7 - Year 12 must own at least one of the following styles of hats:
- A plain white floppy hat
- A plain black baseball-style cap
- A plain white slouch hat
- A plain white legionnaire’s cap
- A Hutchins cricket cap
- A black cap with Hutchins logo
- A House cap

Name Tags
All articles must be marked with woven name tags. A supply of name tags should be sent to Matron by all boarders. The School will not accept responsibility for loss or damage to property of boarders. Parents should make private arrangements for insurance. At the beginning of each term all items must be brought clean and in good condition.
Casual Clothes
1 “smart” set of casual wear; jeans, socks, jumpers, shirts, T Shirts, etc, as desired.
Inter-School Sports uniforms
- The School expects members of Inter-School teams to be correctly dressed and to take pride in being well turned-out
- The Hutchins tracksuit, and no other, must be worn to all fixtures. Boys who are waiting to participate also wear the tracksuit
- Members of certain Open Teams may be asked to wear the School Blazer as an alternative by arrangement with their Coaches
- If a T-Shirt is permitted under the singlet designated for a particular sport, the long or short-sleeved T Shirt must be plain black and without any logo, lettering, insignia or crest, except in the case of rowing where a plain white long-sleeved T-shirt is permitted
- The Hutchins spray jacket or black Japara are the only acceptable garments to be worn in wet weather
- All clothing and footwear must be marked with the owner’s name
- For all winter sports, boys in Years 2 - 6 wear the new long-sleeved Junior School winter sports jumper, which may be purchased at the School Shop or Clothing Pool
- Mouthguards are compulsory in Hockey, Minkey and Rugby and strongly recommended in Australian Rules, Water Polo, Soccer and Basketball. Junior School boys must wear mouthguards for all winter sports and shin pads for Soccer, Hockey and Minkey.
