Debating

Students from Years 7-12 have the opportunity to compete for the school in debating through the competition run from March to October by the Tasmanian Debating Union. Boys will be organised into teams according to Year groups and assigned a coach. Debates are held every second Wednesday evening at variety of schools.

Students are advised to check the TDU website regularly, especially on the day of competition, to confirm the topics, times and venues of their debates. Information on the Parliamentary Shield, United Nations Youth Parliament and other Tasmanian speaking competitions is also available at the TDU site.

Junior School boys can participate in debating through the interschool competition.

As a result of our high performance ISP bandwidth, we now have the capacity through videoconferencing to debate with schools around the world.

Teachers in charge of debating:

  • Senior School: Mrs Farmer
  • Middle School: Mrs Waters
  • Junior School: Mrs Reid
