Burbury House: The student residence

Burbury House is the building that is home to The Hutchins School boarding program. Burbury House has undergone an extensive, multi-million dollar refurbishment that was completed in August 2011. Burbury House is currently home to 45 boys from Tasmania, other Australian states and overseas.

Burbury House has been converted into a state of the art boarding accommodation facility. From Year 6 up until Year 11 boarders are accommodated in twin share rooms and Year 12 boarders have private rooms (subject to availability). Each room has access to wireless internet connectivity, single beds, cupboards, wardrobes, study desk, power outlets and a reverse cycle heating system. Burbury House has a number of student study and social areas containing an eight ball table, table tennis tables, air hockey and foosball tables. There are a number of high definition, digital televisions available for communal viewing. Burbury House also has a theatre room for watching movies. There are new shower and toilet facilities throughout the whole of Burbury House as well as change rooms and storage rooms for all boarders' convenience. The Alec Burbury Dining Room has been redecorated in a combination of traditional and modern decor, including an outdoor deck area for alfresco dining and the kitchen and catering facilities have a new design and fit-out. Boarders have after-school access to a variety of school tutorial, library and cultural facilities. Evening prep takes place in the state of the art Nettlefold Library on Monday evenings. They also have access to numerous sporting facilities including the gymnasium, weights room, tennis courts and playing fields. All boarders lead a busy and active lifestyle.
