The AARNet "IGLEw" event for families and schools! - The Hutchins School is hosting the AARNet IGLEw during the week of 27 August. This amazing inflatable dome uses a high-speed broadband connection and NASA data to allow students to experience space and time in a virtual, immersive learning environment. Hutchins Junior School students have featured in ABC online article for their contribution to the 2011 Australian Sustainable School Initiative (AuSSI) Kids4Kids conference.

The work of our Teacher-Librarians recently featured in an article in The Mercury.

A trip by Year 9 students to Lake Dolverton to teach students at Oatlands District School how to row featured in The Mercury newspaper.

Hutchins student Aaron Zantuck was recently named the school-based Apprentice/Trainee of the year at the 2011 VET in Schools Tasmanian Training Awards. Students James Norris and David O'May were also finalists. Read the article on Aaron from coverage of the Awards in The Mercury. James and David were also acknowledged with a congratulatory notice from Hutchins on the same page.

The recent launch of the Hutchins Organiser app has already received media attention, with Dr Jill Abell and student Fergus Richardson and his mother Mrs Jane Richardson interviewed on ABC Breakfast Radio. Dr Abell and Fergus were then interviewed by 101.7 HOFM for their local news, with Dr Abell also interviewed for an extended feature interview on Ultra 106.5 during drive time. Hutchins Kinder students received a special visit from The Lord Mayor after being the only school students in the state to make a submission to the Hobart City Council's consultation on a Master Plan for the city of Hobart. The student's ideas received coverage in The Mercury as both a print article and online video, and on WIN News.

Recently some of our Year 3 students became weather reporters for a morning - reading the weather report on 7HOFM.

The profile of ICT at Hutchins has been raised through coverage by the Australian Academic Research Network (AARNet). Dr Jill Abell has been interviewed on the ways the network assists students in providing resources for investigative research. See the article on page 30 of AARNet's Annual Report.

Excitement around Dance at Hutchins has continued to build following recent coverage of the Dance Troupe following this year's Webber Lecture. Mrs Michelle Weeding has been interviewed for Australian Teacher Magazine. The story has also featured on the front page of the Chinese News Tasmania website. 

Li Cunxin and Hutchins Dance Troupe received coverage on ABC News locally with the story also running on News 24, Triple J, 936 ABC Local Radio Hobart, and 1073 Magic FM.

Sam Heron’s selection in the National U19 Quad scull was featured on both The Mercury and Rowing Australia websites.

The Tears of Gallipoli student exchange featured on ABC News on ANZAC Day eve. Hutchins student Damon Heather, Turkish exchange student Berke Tekay and Headmaster Warwick Dean all featured in the story, as well as being interviewed as part of the ABC’s live coverage of ANZAC Day. Our students were also interviewed on WIN and Southern Cross News for their local bulletins on ANZAC Day.

During AGFEST, boarder Will Fergusson featured in two rural newspapers, Tas Country and Tasmanian Farmer.
