Hutchins students talk face to face with The Hon. Peter Garrett via a live video link in the Nettlefold Library's Global Classroom.

Hutchins students were recently given the chance to have a face to face meeting with The Hon. Peter Garrett, Minister for School Education, Early Childhood and Youth through the magic of live videoconferencing.

Four Hutchins students, Dan Feeger, Timothy McQueen, Oliver Lane and Taylor Lidstone were joined by four visiting Elizabeth College students, Isaac Dalla-Fontana, Luke Oliver, Hugh Foster and Helen Spurr in our Global Classroom. Using high definition videoconferencing and our high speed AARNet broadband connection Global Classroom telepresence, our students were able to cross live to The Hon. Peter Garrett and students from two other schools, Ivanhoe Grammar and Bowral High School.

They engaged in a lively discussion about what students think schools should do to support tomorrow's leaders in developing the skills they need to make the best use of technology.

Students also debated the topic of the "Why Music Matters" campaign which rallies against how music has been devalued in our society through widespread illegal file-sharing with music industry experts.
