Hutchins community urged to help Queensland flood victims

Wednesday, 12 January 2011

The Hutchins community, like all Tasmanians, has been shocked and saddened by the tragic impact of floods across south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales.

Hutchins Headmaster Warwick Dean has extended sincere condolences to the families and friends of those lost in the tragedy, on behalf of the entire school community.

Mr Dean has also offered his thoughts and prayers to those who have lost their homes and businesses and to emergency services and volunteers who have already started working tirelessly on the clean-up and restoration of services.

"As many members of our community return from a holiday break and prepare for a new school year, residents of south-east Queensland are dealing with the tragic loss of family members and friends, and grappling with the daunting task of a cleanup which could take years. In the past Tasmanians have received assistance and support during natural disasters such as the Black Tuesday bushfires of 1967, which remains fresh in the memory of many in our community. I would urge all those who can to consider making a donation - however small or large - to the Queensland Premier's Flood Victim's Appeal. The school will undertake further fundraising activities once school resumes. Donations can be made through the Westpac Bank website."
