Hutchins bright sparks enjoy eclipse

Solar eclipse, 14 November 2012

It was the first solar eclipse in over a decade, and a group of science-loving Hutchins students rose a little bit earlier than usual to make sure they didn’t miss it!

The eclipse occurred on the morning of 14 November, and could be seen in Hobart from about 7.25 am, finishing just after 9.00 am.

The Science Faculty set up ‘Solarscopes’ in the Senior School Quad to enable safe viewing of the partial eclipse.

While parts of Australia were plunged into darkness, Hobart residents witnessed a little less than half of the Sun blocked by the Moon.

The Hutchins School Head of Science, Peter Crofts, was interviewed on ABC Local Radio about what students and teachers could see.
