Hutchins debating champions
On Wednesday 2 July 2014, the Year 8 Debating Team, of Alex Hall, Chisomo Banzi, Isaac Traill defeated New Town High School to become the Tasmanian Debating Union Champions for 2014. The team also comprised of Harvey Chilcott, Liam Mead and Koh Kawaguchi all of whom were instrumental in achieving a place in the Grand Final.
The team was presented with a perpetual shield at a prize-giving ceremony on the night.
This is the first time Hutchins has won the Year 8 section, since competition began in 1982. What makes this feat even more remarkable is that the core of this team also won the Year 7 Final in 2013; also an inaugural win for a Hutchins Year 7 team.
