School for Performing Arts

In 2000, Hutchins and Collegiate opened The School of Performing Arts - an exciting and innovative “school within a school” for students with creative potential in music, drama and dance.

In addition to providing a full curriculum leading to the TCE, the SPA offers extension programs in the arts and invites talented students to apply for a place.

The conditions of entry to SPA require you to study your SPA discipline (music, dance or drama) as a class elective. In special circumstances you may negotiate with Mrs Weeding the study of your discipline in out of school groups or ensembles (i.e. The Prelude Program or dance classes). You must participate in the major school ensembles as well as your SPA ensemble/s. Attendance at rehearsals is compulsory as is ensuring you are organised and adequately practised.

SPA students are expected to show leadership in ensembles, classes and within the departments generally.

The SPA is limited to approximately twenty students and in 2011 limited places will be available.

A small number of scholarships may be awarded by the Headmaster to students of exceptional ability.

An audition process applies to all applicants, and auditions are held in Hobart and interstate by arrangement. This year, auditions will be held on Saturday 25 September, 2011.

Applications close on Friday 27 August 2010.
