Alec Burbury's son, Charlie, walks in his footsteps

Charles Burbury and his uncle Iain Burbury ('81) with his father's Alec Burbury Award.

Many former students from the 1970s and 80s will remember with great respect Alec Burbury (’80) (now deceased). Just recently a window of opportunity enabled Alec’s son Charlie to visit the school and learn more about his father’s school life and achievements – Charlie having just completed his education at Geelong Grammar where he was Captain of the school 1st XVIII. Alec’s brother, Iain (’81) and wife Jane (parents of George ’10) accompanied Charles along with two of his friends from school.

Given Alec was a boarder, a visit to the boarding house was a priority. He is well remembered as an outstanding sportsman and hanging with pride on one of the front walls of the dining room is The Alec Burbury Award which features Alec’s blazer along with an amazing 12 cap awards – a feat which may never be equalled?

Each year this prestigious award is presented to a Year 10 boarder whose efforts reflect both outstanding character and involvement in the life of the school.

We feel sure Charlie would have taken away some wonderful memories of his dad.
